My Alternative to Halloween

As a Christian I chose not to celebrate Halloween. This is my own personal choice and as a family we choose not to take part in the holiday at all. Mainly because we believe that Jesus is the light and is all about joy, whereas Halloween for us is all about darkness which is the opposite to what we believe.

Now I'm not going to sit here and preach to you about why you shouldn't celebrate it as its everyones own choice. I just wanted to share with you why I choose not to, and what we might do as an alternative to reach out to people in a more positive and loving way.

Here are just a few of my ideas and what we might consider doing instead of the 'normal' ritual of Halloween.

1 - Having a Light Party - At my Church we have something called a Light party as an alternative to a Halloween party. We like to give the children in the surrounding area an option and let them make their own choices. There are so many dark and scary things happening around this time of year and we like to try and share a little bit of light in the darkness. We dress in brightly coloured clothing, have face paints, music and just generally have a good time!

2 - Family Pumpkin Carving - Rather than the usual scary faces in pumpkins, why not try a different design and share light in a different way! This year we will be doing a pumpkin as a family! I want to try this design below!

3 - Autumn Decorating - Why not decorate your home autumnally rather than horrifyingly? There are some gorgeous colours around this time of year. The beautiful oranges, reds and browns that come with autumn. Why not still make your house inviting for people without the scariness?

I hope you enjoyed this post. I am in no way trying to force this one anyone. I just wanted to offer my alternatives if you were looking for one. I still want to open my home to people whilst also sharing the light instead of the darkness! :)

Thanks for reading!
